If the autofocus and menus have disappeared on your Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT, there are a few possible reasons for this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try: 1. Low-contrast subjects: The autofocus may fail to achieve focus on low-contrast subjects. In these situations, try focusing on an object at the same distance as the subject and lock the focus before recomposing. 2. Low light conditions: Autofocus can struggle in low light situations. If you're shooting in low light, consider using manual focus instead. 3. Backlit and reflective subjects: Extremely backlit and reflective subjects can pose a challenge for autofocus. In these cases, try focusing on an object at the same distance as the subject and lock the focus before recomposing. 4. Overlapping near and far objects: When there are overlapping near and far objects, autofocus may have difficulty. Try focusing on an object at the same distance as the subject and lock the focus before recomposing. 5. Repetitive patterns: Autofocus can struggle with repetitive patterns. In these situations, manual focus may be more reliable. To manually focus on your Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT: 1. Set the lens focus mode switch to "MF" (Manual Focus). 2. Use the focusing ring on the lens to adjust the focus until the subject appears sharp in the viewfinder. 3. Press the shutter button halfway to confirm focus. The focus confirmation light in the viewfinder will illuminate when focus is achieved.
